So,IMHO,ES shouldnt make anymore games, but upgrade what they have.wouldnt it be nice to have aoe2:tc with same graphics as aoe3 ? (with square system pliz,i dont really like this freely-placable building) OFFTOPIC: in my opnion es shouldnt do any more games ( no more aoe4 etc.) but keep upgrading their games wich they already have.(at max they could do a game age of empires 4 : conquering mars or wtf something like that) it isnt aoe if it doesnt have a conqueroring feature anymore.Įxample:aoe1 was stoneage or something ? well, people knew nothing then.Īoe2 was middletimes ? people got familiar with their known worldĪoe4 it isnt possible to make the same feeling empiresses from this on since everything is now discovered.the only possiblity would be setting the game to outer space, wich IMO would suck real wouldnt be aoe anymore. I'd love to replay the "civil war" with this engine and make the good guys win this time.
It would be nice if it was concerning the US war of Independence from England, Confederate Independence from the Yankees, WW1, WW2, etc. I like some of the features that you get from cards, such as the hot air balloon.Īll in all, AoE3 would be a much better game if it were pretty much exactly like AOC except with the cranked up graphics, the new civs, new units, new ships, new things to research, etc. I like that there are ships you can build troops with (galleons). I do like the trade posts, Indian alliances, & high graphics quality. AOE3 maps get boring FAST because they are always the same-same-same (yawn).
I also liked the full randomness of AOC maps. I don't care much for earning XP, Home Cities, Explorers, digging for treasures, fighting guardians, & having only ONE login account per CD-key (I have teenagers). I don't like build limits on ships & troops. Play on ESO is only somewhat better than it was on MSN game zone, because it does work intermittently.Īs for game play, these are the things I don't like about AOE3: I can't garrison troops in Forts, Barracks, Stables & Towers. I wish AOE3 had the ease of play using TCP/IP for direct play that AOC had, but I haven't gotten it to work once yet, which also stinks completely. I loved the MP of AOC so long as it was using direct IP, because I felt that MSN game zone pretty much stunk fully. So I don't buy these games for the campaign mode and I won't comment on those differences, if any. I don't care for the campaigns of AOE1/AOK/AOC/AOE2 at all, but I've tied a couple of each.
I love AOC best of all of the AOE series. But, hey, for a sequel there must be innovation -)ĪoE2 WITH the expansion pack = AOC (not AOK). There's something missing, perhaps the fact that the editor is too overwhelming and AoMish, perhaps it's my nostalgia over the old square-based system, perhaps the fact the game has no old-world maps, perhaps it's just me going mad.ĮDIT: Also it could be the fact that the Home City system, great as it is, gives you less of an opportunity to try out new strategies and civs. I designed for AoC too, in fact I didn't do multiplayer much as I enjoyed the editor so much (I was at AoKH for a year or so, as HIGH EMPEROR) It's absolutely great and unputdownable as a stand-alone game, and if you enjoyed AoK you'll really like this, but it's more like AoM2 than AOE3. you've just written my exact thoughts down. Get AoK:TC and play a campaign called Ulio. If you weren't around for at least some of the AoK glory days, you can't know what I'm talking about. There is just something special about creating a beautiful landscape in the AoK editor, and using complex combinations of the simple triggers and skillfully taking advantage of qwerks in the editor to create a masterpiece. The fancy new features and graphics aren't worth the loss of the coolness of the AoK editor. In regards to the editor, it's much the same story. Don't get me wrong It is a heck of an awesome game, but it can't quite stand up the the classic awesomeness that is AoK. And I think the new graphics and such aren't quite worth this loss of "funness". There are so many things I find in playing the game that I miss from AoK, and so many things ES stripped from the final version the game just feels.week, sort of.can't quite put my finger on it.
